Repurposed food containers = wedding centerpieces!

When it came time to decide on centerpieces for my wedding reception, I knew I couldn't afford the fancy ones from the florist, but I also knew I wanted something more special than the couple of little candles the banquet hall offered for free. One day I noticed a plastic popcorn canister and a Lay's Stax can sitting in the recycling bin and a light bulb lit up over my head...

Step by Step Instructions

  1. Acquire materials: popcorn canister (I got mine at Target), Lays Stax can, battery operated LED lights, tissue paper, ribbon, clear tape.

  2. Remove labels: take special care in remaving the label cleanly from the clear canister.

  3. Attach lights: wrap lights evenly around the Stax can, securing with tape where needed.

  4. Attach battery pack: tape battery pack securely to bottom of the Stax can.

  5. Wrap in tissue: wrap the Stax can neatly and evenly with tissue paper.

  6. Attach ribbon: secure a ribbon around the outside of the clear canister to hide threading and to add a bit of flair.

  7. Complete the centerpiece: carefully place the wrapped Stax can inside the clear canister.

  8. Fill and enjoy: Carefully add water to the Stax can taking care not to get the tissue paper wet and fill with flowers.
